  • 1.

    Find quilts, or books with pictures of quilts, made with square patches.

  • 2.

    Invite children to describe their patterns. Talk about principles of visual organization such as rhythm, repetition, unity, and balance.

  • 4.

    Look at quilt designs. What patterns are used? What shapes do you see? How are square patches put together to make a harmonious design?

  • 5.

    To make your own quilt patterns, print Crayola® MiniStampers on paper.

  • 6.

    Cut several quilt squares using Crayola® Scissors.

  • 7.

    On construction paper, arrange the quilt squares in an appealing design. Use Crayola® Glue Sticks to attach them.
