Unit blocks have learning potential in virtually every curriculum area. Among the discoveries children make are that blocks can be lined up as fences, rivers, railroad tracks, and of course alphabet letters.

Find many ways for children to become familiar with letters—and to love reading. Spontaneously burst into a poem or song. Write children’s ideas along with their art.

Older 3-year-olds may be intrigued with this activity.

Choose a favorite letter. Ask an adult to help you draw it in outline form on a large sheet of cardboard or poster board with Crayola® Construction Paper™ Crayons. Make the letters about 3 inches wide.

In the block area, use unit blocks or table blocks to fill in the shape of your letter. Do you need arches and curves?
6.
Draw in the shape of each block used. Or fill the letter shape with designs. Can you make a block drawing for each letter in your name?
