Start with 16 index cards for preschoolers, fewer for toddlers. Increase the number of pieces in the game as children demonstrate skill in remembering color locations.

Verbalize the thinking and concepts involved. Oh, I remember Kylie turned over a green card on her last turn. Let's see…where was that card? I think it was in the left column. Emphasize anticipation and the fun of playing.

To make the game: On 16 white index cards, draw your favorite shape (such as square, circle, triangle) with Crayola® Colored Pencils.

Cover your work area with recycled newspaper. Put on a Crayola® Art Smock. Find (or mix) eight different colors of Crayola® Washable Tempera Paint.

Paint two shapes of each color with Crayola® Brushes. Dry overnight.

To play Color Memory: Play with two or three friends. Mix the cards. Place them face down in four rows.

Each player in turn chooses two cards. Name the colors. If the cards have matching colors, keep the cards and take another turn. If the colors are different, turn the cards face down for the next player's turn.
9.
The game starts again when all cards are matched.
