Shaping Up

Shaping Up lesson plan

  • 1.

With children (and their families), visit an exercise studio. Notice the different kinds of equipment and how people use it. Expand vocabularies.

  • 2.

Why do people want to stay in shape? Talk with children about the many ways to stay healthy. Practice these habits daily.

  • 4.

Think about what equipment is in a fitness club or gym. How could you create a similar space? What exercises could you do do? Set up mats and music.

  • 5.

Choose a name for your fitness area. Make a large sign on construction paper with Crayola® Construction Paper™ Crayons. Add a glow with Crayola® Glitter Glue.

  • 6.

On white paper, draw pictures of yourself doing your favorite exercises and dance routines. Label each one, and write the title of the music you listen to.

  • 7.

With your friends, make these into a book or posters so visitors to the gym can choose their activities. A file folder works well for a book cover. Decorate it with crayons and Glitter Glue. Or display your pictures on the wall.

  • 8.

Make pretend membership cards for your gym. Cut recycled file folders into cards with Crayola® Scissors. Draw your picture with crayons. Write your name, the studio name, and expiration date. Make a Glitter Glue magnetic strip. Who is ready to be a perso
